Bikini models2/25/2023 ![]() ‘When I first introduced the classes I had almost 50 girls sign up instantly. I also provided nutrition guidelines to help each girl figure out their macros. ‘Weight training doesn’t need to be complicated – which is the beauty of my classes. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced lifters as you can simply adjust the weights according to how strong you are. Lifting For Girls consists of four small group PT sessions (usually somewhere between 5-10 girls) and they go through each workout in the “lifting for girls” weight training programme that Anna designed. Even someone like me who is very competent with weight training felt slightly intimidated going down there – and I’ve trained in really old school gyms in the most obscure places in South America before! It is saddening that a commercial gym in central London with state of the art facilities still feels unwelcoming to females and they still feel they should stick to the cardio sections. ‘I wanted to combat the fact that the separate weights room was so intimidating to girls wanting to improve at weight training – it was dark and dingy and full of grunting men. ‘I created it as I used to work in a very male-dominated gym (both PTs and members-wise). Right now, Anna says she just has a “normal” and “healthy” body fat level – and compared to when she was in the midst of her competition days, she doesn’t get half the amount of attention on social media (not that that matters, but still). The number of girls who contact me on Instagram criticising their physique and aspiring to look like bikini competitors or Victoria secret models is quite shocking! Sometimes they will send me their progress pictures, and more often than not, they look like someone who is – in my opinion – in great shape with totally normal levels of body fat. So does that mean that our perception of what’s achievable and healthy have become warped being surrounded by #fitspo all the time? ‘I don’t feel like this is something influencers should be ashamed of, if it’s important to you then it’s ok to dedicate more time to it! But also by being transparent, it should help other people realise that if they aren’t willing to make these kind of sacrifices (which is totally ok), then they shouldn’t aspire to look that way. She says it’s hugely important for influencers to explain exactly what they have to do to get into the shape they are in and how much of their life is dedicated to looking that way. I know personally I will never look like that again, bc I’m just not about that life anymore.’ As a coach, I like to manage expectations here. If you like eating out, socialising, doing fun shit with your life that isn’t living in a gym, you won’t ever look like this. They don’t eat a lot (either naturally they have a very small appetite or they are forcing themselves not to). Their whole life is tailored around looking like that (like I was) and b. If you see someone that is this tiny it highly likely that either a. ‘If you look at this photo and don’t think “she looks pretty thin” I think you have a warped perception of what is a healthy. ![]()
